DALY CITY, Calif. – In its third home match of the year, Academy of Art women's tennis collected its third consecutive win, topping Stanislaus State 5-2 at Bay Club SF Tennis on Sunday evening.
Winning and otherwise leading all three doubles pairings, the Urban Knights (7-4) opened by securing the doubles point on the strength of freshman
Jessica Plazas and sophomore
Erica Hellbe's 6-1 win over the Warriors' (3-5) Amber Huk and Alyssa Tay as well as a 6-3 victory for junior
Viktoria Leth and sophomore
Paulina Alvarez versus Kate Bolton and Sylvana Talamantes.
Shifting to singles action, Plazas was the first to finish, defeating Huk by a 6-1, 6-3 final before Leth bested Tay 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore
Julia Ortega then clinched the win for ART U with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Zuzanna Dziewiecka ahead of Alvarez making it four singles wins in straight sets with her 6-1, 7-5 result over Bolton.
Set to make up its previously rescheduled match with Fresno Pacific, the Knights next meet the Sunbirds in Fresno on Mar. 31 at 2 p.m.
