PacWest Athletes of the Week (Apr. 5)

IRVINE, Calif. – Upon excelling in a variety of events at the Stanford Invitational, Academy of Art track & field's Selena Arjona-Alcazar and Marie-Jeanne Ourega were named PacWest Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Wednesday. The awards are for meets from March 27 - April 2.

A busy two days for Arjona-Alcazar featured her Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifications in four different events. First on Mar. 31, a season-best 11.63 in the 100m dash placed the Communications & Media Technologies major fourth in the event final as well as 12th in NCAA Division II. Though it was not her fastest 200m dash of the year on Apr. 1, Arjona-Alcazar still turned in a 24.02 mark that bested the provisional standard by more than 0.30 seconds. Finally in a pair of relays, she anchored twice as ART U took over the country's top spot in the 4x100m with a 44.82 mark then turned in a 3:49.58 in the 4x400m good for 18th nationally.

Improving upon both of her distances in the horizontal jumps, Ourega spent the Stanford Invitational furthering her lead as the nation's long jump leader with a 20-8 (6.30m) on Mar. 31 which put her ahead of the country's next closest competitor by more than two inches. The Communications & Media Technologies major then wrapped up the weekend in the triple jump on Apr. 1 by ascending four spots to second in NCAA DII with a 42-0.5 (12.81m) mark.

This is the second PacWest Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season for Ourega (Mar. 21) and the sixth in her career while it is the first in the career of Arjona-Alcazar.
