ROCKLIN, Calif. – In the teams' second meeting in less than two weeks, Academy of Art women's soccer contended with Jessup throughout the first half of Tuesday's contest at Warrior Soccer Field where the home team once again prevailed with three goals to their credit in a 3-0 final score.

Following up on the 3-2 victory for the Urban Knights (1-3) over the Warriors (2-4-1) back on Aug. 31, a pair of early shot attempts came from sophomore forward Danielle Medellin in the opening seven minutes, but the scoreless action was interrupted by a goal from Kaylee Gillespie in the 22nd minute as she chased down a pass over the defense and scored to the top of the net.

Perhaps ART U's best offensive attempt came in the 35th minute when a header by freshman midfielder Mackenzie Dowd emerged off a Medellin corner kick and would have been converted were it not for Jessup's defender denying the try with the goalkeeper out of position.

The 1-0 Warriors lead at halftime was expanded in the 60th minute when Gillespie struck again, dribbling to open up a shot in the box and going across the goal to score. One final tally was added in the 88th minute when a free kick near the corner entered the box and, despite a diving stop by graduate student goalkeeper Nicole Peoples, a lob off the deflection made it 3-0 for the final score.

Academy of Art returns to the pitch this Saturday, Sept. 16 with a 1 p.m. kickoff versus No. 24 Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata.
