ART U Strikes First Against Menlo, But Oaks Take It 2-1

SAN FRANCISCO – In the final match of their homestand, Academy of Art men's soccer came out of their contest with Menlo seeing the latter find victory as the Oaks finished off a comeback win with a 2-1 final score at SF Glens at Treasure Island Field on Saturday.

Coming out of the first half with the lead, ART U took only half the shots as Menlo (3-6), but saw the only goal find its way to the back of the net as junior forward Kristian Lonvig put it away off the right post and in after receiving the ball into the box from the left side, dished by junior forward Adrian Lechuga. With Menlo receiving a red card in the 24th minute, the Urban Knights would enter the second half with the lead and up a man.

It took just nine minutes into the closing frame for the Oaks to find themselves on the board to tie it up, as they were awarded a penalty kick. David Stuber of Menlo struck the ball from the penalty spot and notched the score, with Mattia Celant taking the lead for the squad in the 64th, lobbing a half-volley over the goalkeeper after a pass from Oliver Mayer. ART U did manage to outshoot Menlo in the half (6-4), but Martin Fiala in goal allowed no more scores for the Knights to take the win after what seemed like a straight 20 minutes of pressure from the ART U offense to close the match.

After the loss, ART U falls to 2-9-2 overall and 0-6-1 in conference. Academy of Art will head back out on the road to take on Jessup next in Rocklin on Wednesday, Oct. 30 before coming back home to close the season out with a three-match homestand.
