Lonvig Score Propels Knights To 1-1 Draw With Chaminade

HONOLULU– Over at St. Louis Field in Honolulu, Academy of Art men's soccer finished locked with Chaminade 1-1, earning ART U its second tie through seven matches of 2024.

In the first half of action, the Urban Knights, now 1-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in Pacific West Conference action, saw the Silverswords, 1-3-1 on the year and 1-0-1 versus PacWest opponents, take the lead in just the 15th minute after Owen Malone collected the ball in from Ian Garcia and struck one at the net. CUH held the narrow 1-0 lead over ART U for nearly 30 minutes until junior forward Kristian Lonvig scored off a penalty kick to tie up the match 1-1. It was the first goal for Lonvig in an ART U uniform after getting tackled in the box by the Chaminade defense.

Five more combined shots were seen in the second half with four coming from ART U, as sophomore defender Xander Cleaves, sophomore forward Fabrizio Garrido, freshman midfielder Andrea Mercanti, and Lonvig each took one with three being on target. Kayden Medeiros of CUH took the last shot of the match for his squad in the 81st minute, but it fell just off target.

The Knights had the Silverswords' goalkeeper Kili Chappell putting in work in net, as he was forced to record six saves off 10 ART U shots. Freshman goalkeeper Florian Grollmann also recorded three saves of his own in his seventh-straight full match played.

ART U will compete in one more match out on the Hawaiian islands as they'll battle with Hawaii Pacific in just two days on Sunday, Oct. 6 with a 12:30 HT (3:30 PST) start.
