Westmont Offense Takes Over In Victory Over Urban Knights

SAN FRANCISCO – It was tough for Academy of Art men's soccer to keep up with the offense from Westmont during their Pacific West Conference showdown on Saturday, as the Warriors would walk away with the victory with a final score of 6-0.

The Warriors, who improved to 8-4-4 overall and 5-3-1 in conference action controlled much of the play against the Urban Knights, who are now 2-11-2 overall and 0-8-1 in the PacWest. The Warriors managed to get four shots off in just the first few minutes, but ART U responded with two of their own from freshman midfielder Keita Goto and junior forward Adrian Lechuga. Westmont got the best of the early back-and-forth play as they took the lead in the 22nd minute off a penalty and never looked back. The Warriors saw two more scores a few minutes later and went on to wrap up the first half with their fourth right before the break. ART U had four more shots in the opening frame including three on target from senior defender Chris Stokes, freshman defender Tommy Huang, and Adrian Lechuga, but none managed to find the net.

Five more attempts at goal came from the Knights in the second half with three from new shot-takers, but the Westmont defense never let up and held strong to disallow any to scores on their net. The Warriors managed to score on two more occasions to end the match with a 6-0 final score.

Despite the goals allowed, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Florian Grollmann made eight saves by the end of the match, a new career-high, as he still ranks fifth in saves per game in the Pacific West Conference rankings.

The Urban Knights have a quick turnaround as they'll return to their home pitch this Monday, Nov. 4 as they will battle Azusa Pacific beginning at 11 a.m.
