Knights Battle In OT With Wolves, WOU Takes It 90-83

MONMOUTH, Ore. – On Saturday afternoon, the Academy of Art men's basketball team competed on the road against Western Oregon, where they saw the Wolves come away with the overtime victory, 90-83.

Gaining an early lead were the Urban Knights, as they would jump ahead 8-0 in the opening minutes after a senior forward Quintin Metcalf bucket and 3-pointers from both senior guard Rodney Munson and senior guard Treylon Payne. ART U went on to build upon that and would maintain their advantage up until 11 minutes to go in the second half. Supporting a lead by as many as 14 in the opening frame was supported by the aforementioned trio as well as redshirt junior guard Donovan Vickers, senior forward Isaiah Williams, and redshirt junior forward Peter-Kaci Gwananji who all contributed at least six points apiece with Vickers' nine leading ART U. The Knights entered the half up 10 points with the score set at 48-38.

Hovering around a double-digit lead for around the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Wolves started to slowly gain on ART U as they finally managed to turn their deficit to just a point with just under six minutes to go. Trading buckets for the closing minutes, the Wolves tied it up at 79-79 after a jump shot from Jason Gallant. ART U managed to find a clean look from three-point range, but couldn't get it to fall as they game then headed into overtime.

Outscored 11-4 in the extra five minutes was ART U as a layup from junior forward Robbie Armbrester and a pair of free throws from Williams were the only points the Knights would grasp. Armbrester's bucket was what tied the score back up with under three minutes left at 83-83, but the Wolves gained their lead back and put ART U away after knocking down their shots from the line.

Metcalf co-led the team in scoring with Armbrester with the pair's 14 points apiece, while Payne (13), Munson (12), and Williams (12) were all right there with them.

Next up, the Urban Knights return to California where they'll battle at Stanislaus State on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. before heading to their home floor for a five-game homestand.
