Knights Sweep Again In Secure Win Against Stanislaus, 7-0

DALY CITY, Calif. – Continuing to steamroll through their recent opponents, Academy of Art women's tennis completed the squad's second consecutive sweep in the 7-0 masterclass the Urban Knights put on over Stanislaus State at the Bay Club South San Francisco on Friday.

The day began with senior Viktoria Leth and junior Paulina Alvarez calmly putting away their Warriors opponents in Alyssa Tay and Nicollet Alexander, winning the doubles match 6-0. The freshman Amelija Supulniece and junior Erica Hellbe duo quickly finished their doubles match right after, taking it 6-2 over Stan State's Zuzanna Dziewiecka and Emma Yu and clinching the doubles point for the team. Allowing insurance were sophomore Jessica Plazas and freshman Estelle Najean, as they were up 5-2 over their opponents before the match went unfinished.

"I'm really proud of the team's doubles today," said Head Coach Nicole Briceno. "We came out playing smart, aggressive, and we did a great job of capitalizing on important opportunities."

Supulniece scored the first point for the Knights in singles, comfortably winning her match 6-0, 6-1 over Dziewiecka on Court 1. Nothing but success ensued thereafter for the Knights, as Leth followed with a 6-3, 6-2 final against Abbigail Mulick on Court 4. Plazas finished next for ART U on Court 2, securing the fourth point for the team on the day with a 6-2, 6-1 score over Annabelle Mulick. The final three points for ART U came rolling in, with freshman Georgiana Parr winning next 6-2, 6-2 against Alexander on Court 6, Najean securing her victory 6-1, 6-2 over Tay on Court 3, and Hellbe finishing off the day with a 6-0, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) win on Court 5 against Yu.

ART U will now look ahead to host Fresno Pacific next Saturday, Feb. 24 for a 3 p.m. match back inside the Bay Club South San Francisco.
