Leth, Hellbe Undefeated On Senior Day, Knights Win 6-1

DALY CITY, Calif. – After an eventful Senior Day ceremony that celebrated two Urban Knights in Viktoria Leth and Erica Hellbe, ART U women's tennis cruised to a 6-1 victory over Dominican that saw both dominant performances and close matches.

With doubles action starting off the afternoon, sophomore Jessica Plazas and freshman Estelle Najean took the first victory for the Knights on Court 2, defeating Maria Gavrilov and Haley Garcia 6-2. To clinch the first point of the day for ART U, junior Paulina Alvarez and Leth took down Deepa Varnaraja and Carolina Guerrero on Court 3 with a 6-3 final score to put Academy of Art up 1-0 as the teams headed into singles play.

The first two singles matches that ended saw a Knight senior find victory as Leth started it off for ART U by calmly putting down Gavrilov 6-3, 6-3 on Court 4. Finishing soon after was Hellbe, who gained momentum in the second game and beat Garcia 6-4, 6-0 on Court 5. To clinch the win for the Knights as she put the squad up 4-0 on Court 1, freshman Amelija Supulniece, ranked No. 66 nationally in singles, defeated Audrey Rafols, No. 49 nationally, with a consistent 6-4, 6-4 score.

Viktoria Leth & Erica HellbeFinishing the day off after the clinch with another singles win was Plazas, No. 68 nationally in singles, who picked up her seventh straight victory as this one saw a 6-3, 6-2 final. Freshman Georgiana Parr concluded the action on the day for the Knights, with an exciting 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 comeback victory on Court 6.

To end the day, Leth now holds 26 wins in singles and 23 in doubles in her career, with 16 of those wins coming from this season. Hellbe, a All-PacWest Second Team recipient in doubles last year, has recorded 25 doubles victories in her career, with seven doubles wins on the year, all on Court 1.

The Knights will run it back in a little under a week against Dominican on Friday, Apr. 12 in San Rafael, Calif., with the match being played this time at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center starting at noon.
