60m Record Gains Lindsay USTFCCCA National Recognition

USTFCCCA National Athletes of the Week (Jan. 13)

NEW ORLEANS – A 60m dash performance for the ages led Academy of Art women's track & field's Toni-Ann Lindsay to be honored as the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week. The award is for meets held from Jan. 6-12.

On Jan. 10 as part of the Silver and Blue Invitational, the Portmore, Jamaica native's second of two lifetime-best marks in the event was a 7.34 that was 19th-fastest by a NCAA Division II student-athlete to date and rocketed her to the top of the DII national rankings. She became the fastest Urban Knight at the distance, assuming the mantle from Hall of Famer Vashti Thomas who previously ran 7.40 in 2013.

"My focus going into the race was just to react to the commands of the starter," Lindsay said. "I had a good execution from the prelims, so I knew once I react, I'll be in the race. I also let my momentum take me through the last half of the race, as that's a correction Coach Kevin [LaSure] gave me to work with going into the finals. All praises to God and thanks to everyone who believed in me. I am elated about my achievement today."

The weekend in Reno also featured a new indoor best for Lindsay in the 400m on Jan. 11 as her 56.21 slotted among the nation's top 15 with Indoor Nationals provisional qualification in tow.

This is the first USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honor for Lindsay in her career.
