Jason Young enters his fourth season as assistant coach for the Academy of Art University baseball team.
Young was born and raised in Berkeley, California. He attended Berkeley High School and both pitched and played shortstop on the Yellow Jackets baseball squad. He was a pre-season All American in his senior year, three-time All-East Bay Athletic League selection, and two-time team MVP.
Young attended Stanford University majoring in Sociology. In three seasons for the Cardinal, he compiled a 22-5 record with 327 strikeouts. In his sophomore year, Young was First Team All-Pac-10, a consensus All American, and team MVP. That year, Young was 12-3 with a 3.43 ERA and set single season school records with a conference-leading 178 strikeouts in 154.2 innings.
Young was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 2000 draft and made his Major League Baseball debut with the Rockies on May 12, 2003. During his professional career, he played in the Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Indians organizations.
From 2008-09, Young served as pitching coach for the Berkeley High School Yellow Jackets.
He currently resides in San Mateo, CA.
