Gary Plummer enters his first season as a member of the
Academy of Art Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff.
Much like Head Coach Peter Thibeaux, Plummer is a former Golden State Warrior (1984-86) and he brings numerous years of professional coaching experience to the staff. A native of Detroit, MI, Plummer has played basketball at the pro-level (both NBA and overseas) for 16 years. Following his playing career, he began serving as the head coach at a variety of schools in 2004.
Prior to working at Academy of Art, Plummer launched his coaching career when he became the head coach of Payes 6th Grade NBJ Team from 2004-05. Following his stint at Payes, Plummer coached at a variety of prep schools from 2005-2008 before acting as the Head of Payes Place Amateur Athletic Union Strength and Conditioning program in the summer of 2008.
Spending his previous summers as a coach at several camps, Plummer has also worked at Dean Smith’s Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina (1981-83) and the famous Five-Star Basketball Camp (1980-81). He has also run a variety of basketball clinics in Europe over the course of the last five years.
Plummer attended Boston University where he was a four-year starter under Head Coach Rick Pitino. In his career as a Terrier, he averaged 12.5 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game and during his senior year in 1984, he led all Division I players in rebounds per minutes played. Through two seasons in the NBA, Plummer averaged 4.2 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game.
He is currently operating his own company, N Your Court, which serves as a basketball skill development program for boys and girls of all ages.
