Seán Sweeney enters his first year at Academy of Art University as assistant men’s basketball coach.
Most recently, as Director of Operations at the University of Evansville (2007 – 2009) under Head Coach Marty Simmons, Sweeney helped the men’s basketball program achieve the ranking of the sixth most improved in the country. In his tenure at Evansville, the "Purple Aces" improved their win total by 8 games, finishing the 2008 - 2009 season with the most wins (17) since the 2000 season. In addition to coordinating road trips, monitoring academic progress of athletes, and facilitating Booster Club events, Sweeney also taught the course “Coaching Basketball” at the University.
At Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Sweeney served as assistant basketball coach to Head Coach Bill McKee during the 2006 - 2007 season. He coordinated defensive game plans, served as recruiting coordinator, and enhanced player development and scouting. Sweeney played a key role in recruiting a class that would facilitate ARCC’s improvement from 6 to 18 wins, achieving a # 6 national ranking.
Sweeney graduated from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, Minn.) in 2006, where he was a three-year starter, captain, and All-Conference guard. He was named Best Defensive Player and MVP of his Division III team that finished 19th in the country; he led the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in assists and assist to turnover ratio for two years.
