Ro Hernandez enters her first season as assistant women’s soccer coach at Academy of Art University.

A graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology, Hernandez has been around soccer as both a coach and a player for several years.

Hernandez competed on the women’s soccer team at FIT for three years from 2004-2006. In addition to being the team’s captain, she was Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in '04, Defensive Player of the Year in '05 and '06, and she was the first FIT female ever to be earn All-Region honors in '06.

Hernandez began her coaching career at the helm of the Melbourne High School junior varsity women’s soccer program in 2005. That same year, she also started serving as the team trainer for the MEGU Soccer Club which included squads like the Girls U16 group and others. Most recently, Hernandez spent two years as assistant coach for the varsity women’s soccer program at Vierra High School.

Two summers ago, Hernandez could be found sporting a FC Indiana jersey in the Women’s Professional Soccer League. Her team was not only WPSL Champions that year, but they were also Region II Open Cup Champions and runners-up in the National Open Cup. Most recently, she was awarded 2009 Player of the Year for the San Francisco Nighthawks of the WPSL.

Hernandez was also given the honor to play for the Puerto Rican National Team. She co-captained the squad and scored a key game-winning goal in a victory over Trinidad and Tobago which consequently made Caribbean history.

Hernandez is from Madrid, Spain and has played soccer since she was five years old. She currently resides in San Francisco and has been simultaneously working as a certified personal trainer since 2005.
