Michael Morini became Academy of Art University associate athletics director of finance & operations in January 2023 after previously serving as assistant athletics director of finance & operations since his start with the department in August 2019.
In his current role, Morini coordinates and books team travel for all Academy of Art athletic teams including official visits, recruiting trips, and championships. He oversees department budget, manages all financial transactions, and constructs both the department’s Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) and NCAA Financial Statement reports. An advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Morini is also the lead organizer for the department’s annual ART U Golf Classic fundraiser.
As a graduate student coordinator for external relations intern with Saint Mary’s, Morini spent a year supervising gamedays for all on-campus sporting events while handling all aspects of marketing specifically for soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball. In addition to providing scripts for the in-game public address announcer and acting in the role himself, he served as the liaison to the Gael Force Executive team which worked with the student section.
Meanwhile, since the start of 2016, Morini progressed as a member of the Oakland Athletics’ gameday staff to eventual attain the position of guest services area manager. He could be found assisting fans with issues, ensuring employees follow all federal and state laws, and providing direction with regard to promotions.
From November 2018 to May 2019, Morini worked as an athlete development and revenue generation intern with Adonal Foyle Enterprises LLC where he created and developed content for the FOYLE 31 YouTube series.
Overlapping his time with the Oakland A’s, Morini was a marketing, communications, and business development intern in UC Berkeley’s Recreational Sports Department. Along with analyzing social media metrics and creating activations for sponsorship deals, he negotiated contracts for sponsors at Caltopia, the largest college lifestyle event in the nation.
Getting his start with the San Rafael Pacifics, Morini spent time in the baseball team’s front office as a sponsorship and business intern. He directed marketing and advertising for clubs, camps, and clinics, working with sponsors and assisting with gameday operations as well as promotions.
Morini graduated from Saint Mary’s with bachelor’s degree in Sport Management before returning to attain a master’s degree in Kinesiology: Sports & Recreation Management while sporting a 3.92 grade point average.
