Urban Knights Drop Match To Dominican 3-0

The Academy of Art University women's volleyball team dropped their 12th match of the season tonight against Dominican University in San Rafael, CA. Despite a strong start, Dominican was able to wear down the Knights as they cruised to a 3-0 victory, 25-21, 25-16, 25-15. As a team AAU never got above nine kills in any set and Dominican out hit AAU .222 to AAU's .096.

The Urban Knights came out on fire to start the first set. They quickly jumped out to an 11-2 lead over the Penguins. However, a service error on the very next play started Dominican on a 13-2 run, giving them their first lead of the game at 15-14. The Urban Knights were able to keep the remainder of the set close with the point lead fluctuating from 1-2 points. With the score tied 20 a piece DU closed out the set on a 5-1 run, taking the first set 25,21.

The Second set saw only two ties, the first of which came at 1-1, and the second and last at 8-8. Following the 8-8 score AAU was out scored 17-8 as they dropped the second set, 25-16. AAU as a team only connected on 6 kills out of 30 attempts. While Dominican lit up the floor finishing the set with 16 kills.

The third and final set was all Dominican, they took the lead early and never looking back. The attacking prowess of AAU hit an all time low as the team only notched five kills in the set. AAU committed seven errors in the final set which allowed DU to take the win with a score 25-15.

For Dominican Gabby Pecora had a match high 12 kills and 10 digs, and Brooke Swingle added a match high 33 assists on the night for the Penguins.

Amy Bush paced the Knights finishing with a team high six kills and three block assists. Dan Yang chipped in with five kills and eight digs, while Melissa Cheng dished out a career low 12 assists on the night.

The Urban Knights next travel to Phoenix, AZ where they will take on Grand Canyon University in back -to-back matches on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 at the Antelope Gym. Game one is set for 7:00 PM and game two is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM.
