Women's Soccer Comes Up Short in Double Overtime

In their fourth game of the home-stand the Urban Knights hosted Hawaii Pacific University at Kezar Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. With eight days rest prior to the game, the Urban Knights came out strong still looking for their first win of the season. The Academy of Art University had strong offense and solid defense that kept them within reach throughout the entire match. Both teams were scoreless through regulation play forcing the game into overtime. Both teams remained scoreless during the first over time, but Hawaii Pacific ended up scoring a goal in the final few minutes of second overtime, giving them the win over the Urban Knights with a final score of 1-0.

The Academy of Art University really stepped up their offense in the game. The women had nine shots, including four shots on goal during the day. Hawaii Pacific had much better numbers in the match, but the Urban Knights were able to keep them scoreless through 107 minutes of play. The Sea Warriors outshot the Urban Knights 27-9, and had nine corner kicks to the Urban Knight's one corner kick. The game winning goal came in the 107th minute of the match. With just over two minutes left to play, the Sea Warrior's Lauren Avenue crossed the ball to Megan Fuller who put it away into the top right corner of the goal.

Sophomore Olivia Dupon had a solid offensive game for the Urban Knights. Dupon had three shots, including one shot on goal on the day. Freshman Jasmine Sharpe had two shots in the game, and both Emi Sullivan and Carolyn Cordeiro had one shot on goal during the match.

Again, the Urban Knights' goal keeper sophomore Solveig Barnes came up big for her team. Barnes gave up just one goal and had eight saves in over 107 minutes of play. She posted one save in the first half, six in the second half, and one save in second overtime.

Lead scorers for the Sea Warriors were Megan Fuller who had nine shots, including four shots on goal and one goal in the game, and Amber Fuller who had five shots including one shot on goal on the day. Additionally KaUa Wall had two shots and one shot on goal, Sanoe Souza had one shot and one shot on goal and Shelby Moriguchi had one shot on goal in the match.

With the loss the Academy of Art University's record falls to 0-4-2 in conference and 0-9-2 overall, while Hawaii Pacific's record improves to 3-1 in conference and 5-2-1 overall. The Urban Knights play next on Saturday, October 10th against BYU Hawaii. Game time is set for 1:00pm at Boxer Stadium in San Francisco, CA.
