Phoenix, AZ ---The Urban Knights were defeated 3-0 tonight by Grand Canyon University, in  the Antelope Gymnasium, 16-25, 18-25, and 29-31. The Urban Knights' Dan Yang led all players with 19 kills committing just four errors and hitting a .357 percent on the night. Yang also racked up 11 digs to go with her 19 kills.

The first set saw AAU fall behind early in the set, 4-0 . They would, however, bring the score to within one at 7-8 but that was all she wrote for the Knights as Grand Canyon kept AAU to just 16 points by closing out the set on a 3-1 run.

The Lopes jumped out to an early 9-3 lead to start the second set. But the pesky Knights stayed with Grand Canyon for the majority of the set, they would get the score as close as 17-19. However, the hitting power of GCU was too much for the Knights to handle as they closed the second set by again scoring just one point before the set expired, 18-25. Grand Canyon as a team out hit the Knights .355  to .138. They connected with  15 kills on 31 attempts.

The Urban Knights had the opportunity in third and final to push the match to four set, but ultimately they dropped the set late in the match 29-31. AAU started the set by scoring three quick points.  GCU rallied back to take the lead back at 4-8. A Jill Singletary ace brought the scored to 15 all mid way through the set and gave AAU the momentum to take a 21-19 lead. But Grand Canyon scored six straight points to close out the match, 31-29.

Dana Edington finished with 12 kills for the Lopes and Kristen Preach dished out 27 assists on the night.

The Urban Knights face Grand Canyon one last time tomorrow again in the Antelope gym.
