Seattle, WA – After falling behind 40-21 at the half, Academy of Art University (0-9) was unable to recover against the undefeated No. 6 Seattle Pacific University (9-0). In the team's first game of the Seattle Pacific Tournament, the Urban Knights' sophomore
Josiah Jungsten had a season high 14 points in the team's 70-89 loss Tuesday night.
In the first half, Ivan "B.J." Prema, Jr. cut the Falcon's lead to seven with 7:43 remaining as he sunk a three point shot, but the Urban Knights were not able to spark enough offense to keep up with Seattle Pacific. The team struggled hitting only 1-of-7 from behind the arc and 29 percent from the field. On the defensive side of the ball, AAU looked sharp recording two blocks and four steals.
The Urban Knights found their offense in the second half shooting 17-of-28 from the floor and 60 percent from the 3pt range. A strong start to begin the second half brought the Urban Knights within 17 on a bucket from junior Jonathan Burnett, but Seattle Pacific would go on a 15-2 run to capture the lead for good.
AAU distributed the ball well against the Falcons as 10 different athletes recorded points in the game, and the team received 28 second half points from their bench.
Jungsten who hit a perfect 3-of-3 from the deep and 4-of-7 overall, also pulled down a team high five rebounds in the contest. Prema finished with 13 points, including 3-of-4 from three point range. Sophomore Hunter Hayden also played well for AAU adding eight points, four rebounds and two blocks.
Ryan Sweet was the standout for Seattle Pacific as he notched a career high 18 points in the game, knocking down 6-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. The junior also pulled down seven rebounds and stole the ball once.
In their second game of the Seattle Pacific Tournament, AAU will take on Central Washington University, who defeated Colorado Christian earlier Tuesday. The game is set to take place December 30th at 5 p.m. at Brougham Pavilion.
