Point Loma, Calif. -- The Academy of Art University Women's softball team traveled to Southern California for a double header against Point Loma Nazarene University Friday afternoon. The urban Knights came out strong and took an early lead in both games. But despite stringing hits together and scoring first in the two games, the Urban Knights were unable to hold onto their leads and ended up losing both games to the Sea Lions with scores of 2-1 and 8-3.
In the first game the Academy of Art University used their bats early to gain control of the game. They were able to put one run on the board in the second inning. From there an excellent pitching performance by
Sierrah Garcia held Point Loma Nazarene University scoreless for most of the game. The Urban Knights were able to hold onto their one run lead until the sixth inning, when the Sea Lion's offense came alive.
With timely hitting for the Sea Lions and a costly error for the Urban Knights, Point Loma quickly took over the lead by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth. That extra run would be enough to hold the Urban Knights as they ended up losing the game by a score of 2-1. The one and only run for the Academy of Art University was scored by Junior
Shampayne Clay who scored off a ground ball by Freshman
Jacqueline Nieves.
Sierrah Garcia pitched a great game for the Urban Knights. Garcia pitched all six innings, giving up eight hits, two runs (both unearned), and had four strike outs.
Point Loma Nazarene University players Melissa Gomez and Alexandrea Wilkinson both went 2-3 for their team.

Shampayne Clay went 1-2 with a run, and her teammate freshman
Crista Sykes also went 1-2 in the game. The Urban Knights were outhit by the Sea Lions eight hits to four, and had one error in the game.

The second game of the day started off as an even match. Both teams were held scoreless for the first two innings. Again the Academy of Art University had strong pitching, which was holding them in the game. But in the third, the Urban Knight's offense came alive and they were able to push some runs across.
After being held scoreless in the beginning of the game, the Urban Knights finally got some offense going in the top of the third. With one out and bases loaded, sophomore
Alana Aweau hit a blooper single over third base, scoring two runs. Junior
Shampayne Clay followed with a single to right field, which scored one more run in the inning. Things looked good for the Urban Knights as they had a three run lead in the middle of the game. But the Sea Lions answered right back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Point Loma Nazarene then added to their lead by scoring five more runs in the fourth inning. The Urban Knights were never able to get anything else going offensively in the game, and they ended up losing with a score of 8-3.

Carissa Nichole Perales went 1-3 with a run in the game, and freshman
Melissa Coe also went 1-3 with a run. Junior
Ashley Roy went 1-4 with a run scored. Sophomore
Alana Aweau had a good game going 2-3 with two runs batted in. All in the all the Urban Knights had seven hits and one error in the game.
Junior
Ericka Ames started the game for the Academy of Art University. Ames went 3.2 innings giving up twelve hits, eight earned runs, one walk and had one strike out.
Sierrah Garcia came in for relief in the fourth. Garcia went 2.1 innings, gave up two hits, no runs and had one strike out.
Point Loma Nazarene University had fourteen hits on the game. Jenel Guadagno went 2-3 with two runs scored, Tina Keys went 2-3 with a run scored, and Jill Schaefer also went 2-3.
With the loss the Urban Knight's record falls to 5-9 and Point Loma Nazarene University's record improves to 7-0. The Urban Knights take action next on Saturday, February 21
st at California State University Dominguez Hills. Game times are set for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
