San Francisco, CA-- Just across the city, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team hosted the Academy of Art University in a Sunday afternoon match. The young Urban Knights team soon proved to be no match for the Division I USF Dons. Scoring half way through the first half, the Dons took an early lead and never slowed down. The Academy of Art University lost the match by a final score of 4-0.
The University of San Francisco scored twice in the first half. After the break, the Dons came out strong and tacked on another goal in the first few seconds of the second half. They then added to their lead by posting their fourth and final goal of the game just over a minute later. The Urban Knights then settled down enough to hold the Dons for the remainder of the game.
The first and only shot of the game for the Academy of Art University came in the first half, by freshman Carmela Doerr. Sophomore goal keeper Solveig Barnes started the first half of the game giving up two goals but managing nine saves. Freshman Melissa Co came in to goal tend in the second and also gave up two goals. Coe posted three saves in the game.
For the USF Dons, Krisitna Hall led the team with two shots, and two goals in the match. Megan Conner had three shots on goal with one goal and Lauren Maris had four shots on goal and one goal on the day.
With the loss, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 0-2-0 overall, and University of San Francisco's record improves to 2-0-0 on the season. The Urban Knights set off on a six game road trip where they are set to play Cal State L.A. on September 5th. Game time is set for 7:00pm at CSULA.
