Box Score
San Francisco, CA-- Academy of Art women's volleyball team won three straight sets for the fourth game in a row tonight against the Pioneers of Pacific Union College at Kezar Pavilion. The 3-0 win (25-16, 25-21, 25-13) marks their first home match victory this season and their tenth overall. Junior outside hitter
Dan Yang and sophomore middle blocker
Amy Bush proved why they were selected as PacWest Conference Top 10 players of the week this week, they finished with 12 kills a piece while
Yang led the team in digs and
Bush served up four aces.
AAU took the first set 25-16, although it was a hard fought battle. The Pioneers didn't play like a team who has not won a game thus far in their season. It was PUC that scored the first two points of the match before AAU could get on the board. The first set saw 9 ties, with 14-14 being as close as PUC would get to victory. The Urban Knights closed the set on an 11-2 run which was sparked by one of Bush's 12 kills.
The Pioneers must have used the time between the set to turn the heat up, they came out with a 11-5 run to start the second set, had PUC's Britta Widmer not had a bad set (in the middle of their run), the Urban Knights would have seen themselves down as many as 11. AAU used a lengthy official's timeout to sort out a rotation issue to regroup. After a Pioneer service error just after the break AAU would score the next seven points to bring them to within two points, 15-13. It would be a back and forth battle to the end with one more tie at 20-20, but the Pioneers would only muster one more point before just barely snatched the set 25-21.
The third and final set was close at the start. The Pioneers had it close early being down by only one, 7-6. But AAU pushed that into a 10-3 run that PUC could not recover from.
AAU took the match after the 25-13 set victory.
For the Pioneers Heather Jacobson had a team high nine kills, while Tiffany Jacobson dished out 11 assists.
For AAU
Amy Bush (Yucaipa, CA) and
Dan Yang (Beijing, China) both finished with match high 12 kills,
Nicolette Hagan (Richmond, CA) had five kills and five aces on the night, while
Melissa Cheng (Sunnyvale, CA) notched up 31 assists.
The Urban Knights return home later this week when they play Dominican University in their first conference match of the season. First serve is set for 7:00 PM at Kezar Pavilion.
