Hilo, HI – The Academy of Art University women's soccer team battled it out with the University of Hawaii Hilo under the hot sun on Friday afternoon. This was a rematch after the two teams played each other just a few weeks ago. Both teams came out strong, as they challenged each other through the first half. The Urban Knights' defense was solid, but eventually it proved it could not hold off the powerful Vulcan offense. Hilo scored late in the first half and took control of the game from there. Despite the challenging efforts of the Knights, the women ended up falling to Hilo with a final score of 0-4.

The start of the game was an offensive battle between the two teams. Each team went back in forth taking their turn with shots on goal. The tough Hilo offense started to lead the charge after a while, but the Urban Knight defense kept the Vulcans quiet. The Vulcans finally capitalized on their shots in the 37th minute of play, when they scored the game winning goal.

ART U had solid defense in the game, but it could not stop the Vulcans. The Knights gave up two goals in the first half, and two in the second to come up short against their opponents. The Urban Knights were outshot 4-11, which was the main difference in the game. The Knights had a couple of chances to score early in the match, but were unable to capitalize on any of their shots.

"Defensively, our plan was to shut down Poulson (Hilo's leading scorer who also had the lone unassisted goal against us at home) while maintaining good defensive shape to hold off the rest of the team," said Head Coach Aileen Nasypany. "The defensive line was able to contain Poulson without even a shot on goal. It was mistakes along the goal line that allowed Hilo to find the score board."

Leading the Academy of Art University offensively was sophomore Jasmine Sharpe. Sharpe had two shots, both on goal in the game. Sophomore Carmela Doerr and senior Veronica Gutierrez each had one shot on the day. In the net for the Knights was sophomore Hana Klimek who played all 90 minutes giving up four goals, and recording five saves. She receives the loss in the game.

For the Vulcans, Lauren Minami led her team with three shots on goal and one goal in the match. Also doing well was Analysa Rodriguez, Shea Nakamoto, and Emily Lambert who each scored one goal for their team. Two additional Vulcan players received assists on the day.

After the loss, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 1-7-1 overall and 0-7 in the PacWest, while Hilo's record is at 3-6-1 overall, and 2-4 in conference. The Knights will play their final game of this road trip on Sunday October 3rd. They are scheduled to play Chaminade University at 3:30 pm (HST) in Honolulu, HI.
