Urban Knights Drop Final Game in Desert Stinger Tournament

In the final day of the Desert Stinger Tournament, the Academy of art University battled the University of Mary on Sunday afternoon. After a slow Urban Knights start to the game, the University of Mary's came out attacking and never looked back. The Marauders' offense overpowered the Urban Knights and AAU ended up losing 8-1.

The Marauders scored first taking an early two run lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Knights turned right around and put up a run of their own in the top of the second. The single run would be the only run the Knights would score in the game. The Marauders kept pushing offensively and scored two runs in the second, one in the fourth and then three runs in the sixth. Those runs would be more than enough to hold the lead over the Academy of Art University and the Urban Knights ended up losing 8-1.

The Knights were outhit by their opponents 10-3, and they had three errors in the game. The Urban Knights also left five runners on base on the day.

Leading the Urban Knights offensively in the game was sophomore Jayme Stewart who went 1-2 with a run scored, and senior Shampayne Clay who also went 1-2. Freshman Andrea Hanchey also did well going t 1-3 in the game.

Starting in the circle for the Urban Knights was freshman Kimberly Dauer. Dauer received the loss for the game and only went .2 innings pitched giving up two earned runs. Sophomore Sierrah Garcia came in for relief in the bottom of the first inning. Garcia went 5.1 innings pitched giving up seven hits, three earned runs, four walks, and had four strikeouts.

For the Marauders, J. Alvarado had a very good game going 3-4 with two runs scored, and one run batted in. D. Smith also went 3-4 with a home run, one run scores, and four runs batted in, and J. Button went 1-2 with two runs scored.

The winning pitcher was the Marauders' E. Brunskill who went all seven innings pitched giving up three hits, one earned run, one walk, and no strikeouts.

With the loss, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 2-4-1 overall. The Urban Knights return to San Francisco to play their first home games of the season this week. They are set to play William Jessup on Wednesday, February 17th with the first game starting at 3:00 PM. Games will take place at Mission Blue Field in Brisbane, CA.
