Previous Week Recap:
The Urban Knights had a light game schedule last week as they played only one double header against CSU Monterey Bay on the 24th. The women played well and ended up splitting the double header with the competitive CCAA members. The games were close, and both teams only won by one run.

Home Stand Outlook: AAU begins the first home stand of the season which will consist of six games over three days. They lead off with a game against NAIA members Holy Names University on Wednesday, March 3rd. The highlight of the home stand will take place on Saturday, March 6th as the Urban Knights host “Swing for a Cause.” In the Knights' two games that day, they will be playing to support AADP, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation. A silent auction will take place during all three games going on that day, as well as bone marrow donor registration. To register to be a bone marrow donor is painless. It entails short paper work, and a cheek swab.

Leading the Urban Knights: Now with a 6-6-1 overall record, the Knights are being led by Senior Shampayne Clay. Clay has a .412 batting average, a .529 slugging percentage, and a .444 on base average. Also helping the team offensively is junior Ashley Lokey who is batting a .409. She has recorded 18 hits, and 11 runs scored (most on the team), as well as being 7-9 in stolen bases, and having a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Scouting Holy Names University: The Hawks are off to a slower start than previous years with a 2-14 overall record. They are led by Alexis Montezuma who has a .385 batting average with five hits (1st on team), four runs scored (1st), and two home runs (1st). Rachel Martinez is also helping offensively by batting .333 with three doubles, and four runs batted in. Markie Benavidez-Talbott is the Hawk's ace with a 2.80 earned run average in 15 innings pitched. In their meeting last year, the Academy of Art University split with Holy Names in their double header.

Scouting Oregon Institute of Technology:  The Owls have had a strong start to their 2010 season with an 8-7 overall record. They are led right now by Sarah Coats who is batting a .383 with 10 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Coats also has a .638 slugging percentage. Also doing well is Jess Plummer who has a .357 batting average with four doubles, four home runs (1st on team), and 16 runs batted in (1st). Taylor Schmidt stands out on the mound with a 1.89 earned run average and a 7-6 record. Schmidt has given up 10 earned runs, six walks, and posted 28 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched. This will be the first time the Urban Knights and OIT face each other.

Scouting Patten University: The Patten University Lions are off to a 3-7 record this season. Offensively the team has two standouts: Jarica Blakeley and Penelope Crouse-Freehan. Penelope had a .474 batting average with nine hits, seven runs (1st on team), three doubles, one triple (1st), two home runs (1st), and seven runs batted in (1st). Jarica has a .400 batting average with 10 hits (1st on team), five doubles (1st), one home run, and six runs batted in. Nicole Scott has been solid on the mound with a 2.65 ERA and a 3-1 record in over 34 innings pitched. In their double header last season, the Urban Knights swept the Lions in the late season match up.

Looking Ahead: After Wednesday's double header, the Urban Knights gear up for a four game home weekend series. Three games will take place on both Saturday and Sunday in the round-robin play. Remember to come by and support AADP and the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation at Saturday's games. Game one is Academy of Art University against Patten University at 10:00 am at Mission Blue field in Brisbane, CA.
