Brisbane, CA-
The Academy of Art University softball team played the last two games of their home stand on Sunday afternoon. Swapping the order of games from yesterday, the Knights re-matched Oregon Tech in game one, followed by Patten University in the night cap. In their first game, AAU played well, but errors proved costly and they ended up losing 6-5. In the second game, the Urban Knights came from behind to take another win from Patten this time with a score of 5-3, and ended up sweeping the Lions this weekend.

The OIT owls were out for vengeance after AAU's come from behind victory the night before, and it showed. The Urban Knights were able to score first posting a run in the bottom of the first. The Owls immediately fought back by scoring twice in the second. In the bottom of the third, the Knights would regain the lead when Alana Aweau hit a two run home run, her second of the weekend. The Owls came right back when they scored two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Knights answered in the bottom of the inning when they scored two runs of their own. This would tie the game at 5-5 going into the final two innings.

The Urban Knights had two costly errors in the top of the seventh inning, which the Owls were able to capitalize on. OIT scored their final run in the seventh, and the Knights would not be able to push across a run of their own to stop them. Even though AAU had runners on second and third, they failed to bring any runners in, and lost 5-6.

The AAU pitching staff did their part in the game. Combined, they pitched very well. Sierrah Garcia started in the circle for her team and went five innings pitched giving up five runs, and one walk. Kimberly Dauer came in to pitch in the seventh inning, and received the loss in the game. Dauer threw two innings giving up one run, and posted one strikeout.

Leading hitters for the Urban Knights were Ashley Lokey who went 3-4 with two runs scored, a double, and a stolen base, and Sierrah Garcia who went 2-4 with a double, one run scored, and one stolen base, and Andrea Hanchey who too went 2-4 with a double, and one run batted in. Alana Aweau also stood out going 1-3 with a home run, one run scored, and two runs batted in, and Julie Martin went 2-3 with a stolen base in the game.

For the Owls, Andria Wheatley did well going 3-4 with two doubles, three RBI's, and one run scored. Sara Coates also did well going 2-2 with a double, and one run scored, and Ashleigh Larson also went 2-4 in the game.

The Urban Knights scored five runs off 10 hits (outhitting their opponents), left eight runners on base, and had three errors in the game.

Both the Academy of Art University and Patten University had slow starts in the last game. Two scoreless innings passed before either team was able to make something happen. In the top of the third inning Patten University scored three runs to put them on top of the Urban Knights.

The Knights were able to score one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but it was not enough to catch the Lions. Finally in the bottom of the fifth, the Knights were able to start of rally of their own. They were able to score three runs, and then secure their lead with one final run in the sixth. Solid pitching performances by the Knights kept the Lion's offense off balance for the remainder of the game. Strong offense combined with strong pitching, allowed the Urban Knights to hold on for a 5-3 victory.

Again the Urban Knights were led offensively by Ashley Lokey. Lokey went 2-3 with one run scored in the game. Melissa Coe also came up big for her team going 1-2 with one RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Shelby LaFond went 1-2 with three runs batted in, and Nicole Smith went 2-4 with one run batted in.

Kimberly Dauer started the game for AAU. Dauer went four innings pitched giving up just four hits, two earned runs, and posted five strikeouts. Sierrah Garcia came in for relief in the fifth. She went three innings pitched with one hit, two walks, and seven strikeouts. Garcia received the win in the game.

For the Lions Frances Ramirez went 2-3 with one run scored, and Jarica Blakeley went 1-2 with a home run and two RBI's. Receiving the loss was Tierney Estampa who pitched six innings giving up four earned runs, three walks, and had three strike outs.

The Knights scored five runs on nine hits, left nine runners on base, and committed one error.

After the split, the Academy of art University's record is at 9-7 overall, while Oregon Tech's record is at 12-10, and Patten University's record is now 5-9. The Urban Knights next head to Hawaii for a week long road trip and the start of PacWest conference play. Their next game is scheduled for March 13th as they take on Chaminade University. Game times are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM (HST) in Honolulu, HI.
