OPENING SERVE
The Academy of Art women's volleyball team arrived in Hawai'i on Friday, but their first match against Hawai'i-Hilo was not the island welcome they had been looking for, as the Vulcans dispatched the Knights in three sets, 20-25, 10-25, 22-25. Keanini had 12 kills for the Urban Knights, and Angela Heath added 10 kills and 6 digs in their return to their home state of Hawai'i. Melissa Cheng had 32 assists and added four more kills from the setter position, and libero Midori Le had nine digs.

TOP OF THE TOP
The Seasiders from BYU-Hawaii have won ten straight and have won 12 straight sets heading into their matchup with the Urban Knights. The Seasiders lead the league in team hitting percentage (.257) and are second in opponent hitting percentage (.139). They also lead the league in assists per set (13.39), kills per set (14.18), and blocks per set (2.35). The Knights will have their hands full with freshman phenoms Shih Ting Chen, who is second in the PacWest with 4.58 kills/set, and setter Ying Chun Chen, who is first in the conference with 10.95 assists/set, both from the same school in Taiwan.

SWORDS IN THE CELLAR
Chaminade is near the bottom of the standings in the PacWest, and is also at the bottom of many statistical categories as well. Out of the ten teams in the PacWest the Swords rank ninth in hitting percentage (.110), opponent percentage (.259), assists (8.65/set), kills (9.44/set), blocks (1.23/set) and last place in digs (14.35/set). The Silverswords do have bright spots in Crystal Powell, who leasds the team with 179 kills and 201.5 points, and setter Kristina Donathan, who averages 6.69 assists per set.

HPU IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The Sea Warriors are ranked sixth in the NCAA West region ranking, and are 11-8 against teams in their region. If the playoffs started today, HPU would make it into the regional round, as would second place BYU-Hawaii. The Sea Warriors are a solid defensive team, and lead the PacWest in digs (19.17 per set), highlighted by senior Kyra Pelayo, who leads the league with 503 total digs, 6.21 per set. Sanoe Recca (217 kills) and Natasha Bell (213 kills) lead the offense for the Sea Warriors.

LEINANI LEADS THE WAY
Senior outside hitter Leinani Keanini has made the switch from libero to outside hitter look like it was no problem, going from one of the defensive leaders on the team to leading the team in digs (3.26/set), aces (19), and kills (2.97/set) for the Urban Knights. "I'd let her play anywhere on the court," said Magner. "That kid is a killer. She's got a serious competitive attitude and she comes with a fight every time. She's a defensive mogul and it all starts with defense."

LOOKING AHEAD
After the Knights battle it out with BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade, and Hawaii-Pacific, they will finish up the year at home against Notre Dame de Namur on November 11.
