ON THE APPROACH
The Urban Knights women's soccer team had to settle for three out of four in their first round of Bay Area games, taking wins from Mills, Dominican, and Holy Names but falling last week to Notre Dame de Namur in a 5-3 contest. The Knights took a 2-0 lead but gave up five straight goals before rebounding with one late in the second half.
THIRTY-THREE AND COUNTING
Junior midfielder
Hannah Emmett continues to stretch her lead in the all-time points category, and after her goal against the Argonauts has 33 points in her career. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native has a program-high 14 goals and has also added five assists in her career. After a slower than usual start to the year, Emmett has really picked up the pace. In the first two games of the year, Emmett was unable to get a shot off, but since then has averaged just under three shots a game since then.
THE LANCERS CRAZY EIGHTS
California Baptist is coming off a 1-0 win over BYU-Hawai'i last week in which Bernadette Witz became the second member of the Lancers to make it to eight goals on the year, as Kelly Jenks was already at that mark. The two teammates are now tied for second in the conference in goals, and Jenks (18) and Witz (17) lead CBU in points. They're part of a multi-faceted attack that has averaged 2.70 goals per match, something that the Urban Knights will have to slow down in order to emerge from Riverside victorious.
SHARPE AS A TACK
Jasmine Sharpe has continued to impress for the Urban Knights, scoring her ninth career goal last week on a penalty kick against NDNU. Her 11 points on the year rank second on the team, while her five assists are first overall, and second all-time only to Megan Bucci's six assists last year. Sharpe, a senior and a captain for ART U, is also extremely close to another career milestone, as she is only 79 minutes away from playing 5000 total minutes in an Urban Knights uniform.
COMING UP SOON
After taking on the Lancers, the Knights will return to the Bay Area but not to their home park, traveling to San Rafael to play Dominican in their second matchup of the year. Later that week, they'll hit the road for Fresno to take on the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific on Oct. 20 before their final home game on Oct. 26.
