OPENING SERVE
The Urban Knights fell to Notre Dame de Namur last week in a match that got away from them despite a lead in the first set. There were still bright spots for the Knights, however, as their statistics on the attack continue to be competitive with their opponents, and their flashes of brilliance are still just as explosive as always. Melissa Brum continued to impress, totaling her ninth double-digit kill performance in 12 matches.

'SWORDS SET TO LEAVE THE ISLAND
After starting the year with nine straight games on the Hawaiian islands, Chaminade University makes their first stop on the mainland taking on the Urban Knights in San Francisco. The Silverswords are 1-3 to start conference play, with their one win coming in a 3-1 victory last week over UH Hilo. Ku'Ulei Lynch is leading the team in hitting percentage (.273) while Kim Spring (80 kills) is right in front of Kapiolani Rapoza (73 kills) on the attack. Daniella Montoya (107 assists) and Valentin Bevilacqua (100 assists) have been splitting time at setter, while Lynch and Kylee Pedro are tied for the team lead with 22 blocks apiece.

JUNIORS HIGH ABOVE THE NET
ART U third-years Brittany Ulmer and Lindsay Elgin continue their consistent play for the Urban Knights this season, and both are being recognized for their efforts. Elgin is hitting an even .300 on the year, with Ulmer right behind at .259, both marks good enough for ranking in the top 20 in the conference. Elgin is also in the top three for blocks per set (1.26) and is leading the team with 59 total blocks. She is also right on the verge of 100 kills on the year, sitting at 91, while Ulmer is at 71 kills on the season. Both are also now in the top 10 in career blocks, with Ulmer just breaking in last week at number 10 with 92 blocks.

HIGH FIVE FOR HAWAII PACIFIC
HPU has won five games in a row heading to the mainland, and have not lost since September 14, when they fell to Cal State Stanislaus. Since then, they have defeated Chico State, UH Hilo twice, Chaminade, and #4 BYU-Hawaii in a five-set battle last week. The Sea Warriors sit right outside the NCAA Division II Top 25 rankings as of the last release on September 30. They are led by three attackers with over 100 kills: Pomai Recca (163), Kasey Thompson (108), and Samantha Rummans (100). Marie Fujii (236 assists) and Hannah Schuett (232 assists) are leading the way setting things up, while Haley Doerfler ranks right ahead of ART U's Lindsay Elgin with 1.34 blocks per contest while maintaining the same number of total blocks, 159.

HILO HITS WALL IN CONFERENCE PLAY
The Vulcans were 5-0 heading into conference play, but faltered once facing their local opponents, dropping their first four conference matches heading into the trip to California. UH Hilo took down Alaska Fairbanks, Alaska Anchorage, East Central University, and Fort Hays State University in non-conference play, only losing three sets total, but will face a stiffer challenge in the PacWest. They are led by freshman outside hitter Marley Strand-Nicolaisen, who is leading the team with 111 kills in nine matches, good for 3.26 kills per set. Kyndra Trevino-Scott is right behind her at 98 kills, while Sienna Davis has 247 assists and Trevino-Scott leads the team with 32 total blocks.

SETTING IT UP
After hosting the island contingent, ART U will hit the road while staying in California on a difficult road trip, playing three matches in three days against PacWest opponents. They'll start on Thursday, October 10th against Point Loma, then travel to Azusa Pacific on Friday, and finish up at California Baptist on Saturday.Â
