Knights Break Out Of Drought By Winning Big

Box Score
Honolulu, HI -- After being mired in a scoring rut and playing a long run of low-scoring games against PacWest opponents, the Academy of Art University women's soccer team started off their final road trip on a high note, notching a season-high four goals in a 4-0 shutout of Chaminade University. The Urban Knights got goals from four different scorers while Rachael Rempe led the Knights defense that only allowed seven shots on goal for the game.

"I am very proud of my team," head coach Aileen Nasypany said. "We have controlled our most opponents with possession and stats, but today we capitalized on our opportunities.  A win and a shutout with a team effort is a good way to start our roadtrip. We have some work ahead, but the team's mentality and work rate is in the right place."

The Knights were back in a defensive battle in the first half, as there was no score on either side for the first 40 minutes of the game. Rachael Rempe had made three saves while Lauren Ishii had matched with three of her own, but on a corner kick from Beth Barker, ART U's career leading scorer added another one to her total, as Hannah Emmett rose above and headed it past Ishii and into the back of the net, and the Knights went into the half up 1-0.

Academy of Art stormed out of halftime and unleashed a barrage of shots on the Silverswords in the second half, as Réa Laudat took a shot in the 52nd minute that resulted in a free kick. Laudat took the kick from 30 yards out and sunk it to put the Knights up 2-0 with her first goal of the year. Less than 10 minutes later, Mikayla Martig took a feed from Laudat and played it through, firing from 10 yards out and past the keeper for ART U's third goal of the afternoon.

They would add one more with less than a minute to play as Barker had another corner kick that resulted Marley Sutter going wide with a header but then getting a second chance from Kiyomi Mitsuda and finding pay dirt, getting their third goal of the half to end the game.

Laudat would end with a goal and an assist, her first three-point game of the season. Rempe had six saves before taking her first break of the season with eight minutes left, as Jessi Vargas saw her first action and notched a save of her own to preserve the shutout. Jill Hara had three shots on goal for the Silverswords, while Ishiii had seven saves.

Academy of Art will play again on Monday against BYU-Hawaii and look to build upon Saturday's success.
