ON THE APPROACH
The Urban Knights are looking to rebound after a frustrating road trip that saw them drop two matches in Southern California. Academy of Art University lost two close matches, and all of their games this year have been decided by less than a two-goal margin. ART U has won their lone home game so far, however, and with a home-heavy schedule the first half of the season, will look to their friendly confines to provide them with some wins.
LANCERS RIDING IN HOT
After three straight losses to start the year, California Baptist, last year's conference champion, rattled off six goals in regulation to shut out Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in their first home match of the year. They'll hit the road again for three more, with Academy of Art being their first stop. In the early going, Kelly Jenks and Lindsay Vesling each have a pair of goals for the Lancers, while Jenks and Kimberly Allard each have a pair of assists. The Knights will also have to contend with the PacWest Preseason Player of the Year, senior Bernadette Witz.
REMPE SAVING THE DAY
Rachael Rempe stepped in between the posts for the Urban Knights last season, and in a little more than a year has already etched herself into Academy of Art history. After setting the records for wins and shutouts in 2012, she recently claimed one of the final goalkeeper statistics for her own, notching her 117th save to push her into first place all-time, ahead of former Knight Solveig Barnes, who had held the record since 2009. Rempe, the 6'0 Fashion Design major for the Urban Knights, has been a presence in goal, and has been the anchor in a much improved ART U defense over the past year.
COUGARS KEEP IT CLOSE
Azusa Pacific comes to town with a 2-1 record after their first loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cal Poly Pomona. After winning their first two matches against Lee (TN) and Cal State Dominguez Hills by identical scores of 2-1, Azusa was shut out for the first time in a game that had it's only goal scored off a free kick deflection in the 54th minute. The four goals have come from four different sources, as Mayra Almazan, Katelyn Rogers, Alyx Williams, and Haley Williamson have all scored for the Cougars. Sarah Klinkenberg has played all 270 minutes in goal.
HEADED YOUR WAY
After the home stand, the Knights will take a quick jog south to Notre Dame de Namur University on September 28 before hosting Dominican University back at home in a rare Monday morning contest on September 30.
