Silverswords Sweep Knights In Hawaii

HONOLULU – A consistent offensive rhythm escaped ART U Volleyball on Friday night against Chaminade inside McCabe Gymnasium. Energized being back in their home gym after a rough roadtrip, the Silverswords used early runs in each set to gain confidence toward their 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-18, 25-15).

Chaminade established a 9-4 lead to start the opening set, but multiple Silverswords attack errors helped bring ART U back within three at 17-14. The home team proceeded to win four of the next five points and later finished on top 25-20 moving into the second frame.

A 6-1 run came from Chaminade early in the second set and though a kill by senior outside hitter Melissa Brum brought the Knights to within one at 14-13, the Silverswords would not relinquish the lead. Out of a timeout, Chaminade scored three consecutive points to win the set 25-18 and gain a 2-0 advantage.

The third set saw an early 8-2 push from the Silverswords en route to an 11-5 lead. A 6-0 burst then followed and Chaminade had worked a double-digit margin at 17-7. The teams traded points thereafter until a 25-15 victory sealed the match.

ART U drops to 4-11 overall and 2-4 PacWest with the loss. Brum finished with a team-high six kills, the tandem of junior outside hitter Bailey Soolsma and redshirt sophomore middle blocker Safua Elisaia combined for 10 kills, and junior middle blocker Margaret Winkler added four block assists.

The win raises the Silverswords' overall record to 8-8 and 2-5 in conference play. Kim Spring put up a match-high 10 kills and Natashya Enos contributed 17 assists.

Academy of Art continues its Hawaii roadtrip on Saturday with a trip around the island of Maui to Laie and BYU-Hawaii's Cannon Activities Center. The Knights and Seasiders will open their rematch at 7:30 p.m. HT (10:30 p.m. PT).
