AZUSA, CALIF. Tim Ogunniyi was Academy of Art's (2-8-1, 2-4-0 PacWest) nemesis on Saturday, posting four goals en route to a 6-0 win over the Urban Knights.
Azusa Pacific (4-4-2, 4-2-0 PacWest) set the tone in the opening moments of the first half, taking a 1-0 lead in the third minute of play. A corner kick from the Cougars' Raul Martinez set up a header goal for Ogunniyi, giving him his first score of the contest. A foul on the Urban Knights in the 21st-minute set up a penalty kick for Martinez who gave APU a 2-0 lead. Just moments later, Ogunniyi stretched the Knights' deficit to three goals when he chipped a 40-yard shot over sophomore goalkeeper
Kevin Mendez in the 32nd-minute.
Ogunniyi was back at it in the 49th and 50th minutes to start the second half. The Cougars' striker first headed in a cross from Matt Ahlquist and then shot the ball into the crossbar which bounced just over the goal line. A foul on ART U in the 80th-minute set up a free kick approximately 20 yards out for Kaleb Armbrust. His shot knicked the crossbar and ricocheted into the corner to make it 6-0. The Urban Knights were unsuccessful in mounting a counter attack as APU's defense did not allow a single shot in the second period.
Academy of Art will now head home after a 1-2 road trip. ART U will spend the next week preparing for their match against Dominican on Sunday, October 16 at Kezar Stadium.
