SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art men's soccer (1-6-1, 1-2 PacWest) was poised for another defensive battle when Chaminade (2-3, 2-1 PacWest) arrived at Beach Chalet. After 90 minutes, 19 combined shots, and just one goal, that was exactly what they received. Despite their efforts however, they found themselves on the opposite end of a 1-0 score.
Â
In the first half, both sides played on an even level, each amassing four shots. The Silverswords were able to get a look on goal in the 12th minute, but sophomore goalkeeper
Kevin Mendez did not let it through. ART U received several chances themselves with three corner kicks within a one-minute span. However, each of their attempts were thwarted by a strong Chaminade back line.
Â
In the second half, CUH was awarded a corner kick of their own which was taken by Tyler Braunthal. His kick was true as it soared into the scrum in the box and found the head of Curtis Coburn who redirected it into the left corner to take the lead. Looking to respond, Academy of Art compiled seven shots in the period, but could not find the back of the net.
Â
All in all, a pair of Knights put together a solid contest. Freshman forward
Andrew Deans took two shots and was a strong offensive presence. Sophomore defender
Bobby Gutierrez played a big factor in ART U's second-half push, getting off two shots of his own. As a team, the Urban Knights outshot the Silverswords 11-8.
Â
Monday's match concluded men's soccer's longest homestand of the season and they will know head out on a three-game road trip including stops at Holy Names, Point Loma, and Azusa Pacific.Â
