HONOLULU – Academy of Art women's soccer evened the score in what turned out to be a back-and-forth second half. However, Chaminade regained the lead less than 30 seconds later and sealed the 3-1 win with another goal in the final minutes.
 
In the first half, the Urban Knights played the Silverswords evenly from the start. Both sides nearly matched each other shot-for-shot, but Chaminade managed to find the net in 34th-minute, taking a 1-0 lead. Despite the goal, ART U managed end the period leading CUH six shots to four.
 
Entering the second period trailing 1-0, it did not take long for Academy of Art to pull even: in the 68th-minute, junior midfielder Silvia Fernstrom dribbled down an open lane in the center of the field and took a shot. The Silverswords goalkeeper reached out for the save, but her attempt was too late as ball ricocheted into the back of the net. The goal was the first of Fernstrom's career and it tied the game at one goal apiece.
 
However, in their next attack, Chaminade retook the lead with a quick goal less than 30 seconds later from 20 yards out. Nine minutes later, CUH added another score to their tally, making it a 3-1 game. Over the remaining 23 minutes, the Urban Knights took three more shots, but none were able to find their mark.
 
Overall, ART U's shot total stood at 13, their second-highest mark of the season. Fernstrom led the team with five shots in the match (three on-goal) while senior midfielder Abigail Chavez took two (both on-goal). Academy of Art now falls to 0-8-1 overall and 0-4 in the PacWest after today's loss.
 
The Urban Knights will play one more contest on the island of Oahu before returning home. Their final match will take place on Thursday, October 5 against Hawaii Pacific at 12:30 p.m. HT.
