KNIGHT WATCH
Aggressive serving has kept Academy of Art not only the Pacific West Conference's top team in terms of service aces, but also a top 50 team in the country at 1.74 aces per set. With 28 aces on the year and a 0.34 ace-per-set average, freshman libero
Ashley Pawlak is starting to close in on the program's single-season record of 42 set by Kanoe Irvine in 2014. Sophomore setter
Lilika Teu is seventh in the PacWest in assists per set (6.38) and senior outside hitter
Bailey Soolsma is averaging up 3.09 kills per set (eighth in the PacWest).
NOTRE DAME NOTES
Since defeating ART U 3-1 in Belmont on Sept. 15, Notre Dame de Namur has had up and down stretches, but comes into Tuesday riding a three-match win streak from their Hawaii roadtrip. The Argonauts are currently holding onto fifth in the PacWest standings at 9-7 and have an important milestone looming. Bianca Alvarez, the conference's kills per set leader who ranks fourth in the nation (5.05) will enter Tuesday's match 18 kills from tying the PacWest career kills record (1705). In the all-time matchup, Academy of Art remains ahead 12-7 despite three wins for the Argos most recently.
SWORDPLAY
Chaminade is an even 11-11 on the year, but sits behind Dominican in ninth among the PacWest standings. The Silverswords have played just six road matches thus far and are currently 2-8 in their last 10 matches with five road losses during that stretch. Chaminade is slated to play Fresno Pacific (Nov. 6) and Holy Names (Nov. 8) prior to ART U on Thursday. The Silverswords' primary offensive threat is Emma Tecklenburg who ranks third in the conference at 3.71 kills per set. In 13 previous meetings, Academy of Art is 8-5 all-time against Chaminade.Â
DIXIE PART DEUX
Dixie State sits just behind NDNU in the PacWest standings at 8-7 in conference, going 2-3 since their sweep of Academy of Art on Oct. 16. The Trailblazers defeated Fresno Pacific and Point Loma, but both in five sets and DSU will face UH Hilo (Nov. 6) as well as Azusa Pacific (Nov. 11) before the Knights this weekend. Kayla Chapman offers the Trailblazers' top hitting percentage at .308 (sixth in the conference), however, it was Lauren Gammell who led Dixie with nine kills when they last met ART U. The victory earlier this year put DSU ahead of ART UÂ 12-4 in the historical matchup.
ACADEMY OF ART CAPTURES THIRD SET, FPU PREVAILS 3-1
Fighting through closely contested sets, ART U Volleyball ended up being outlasted by Fresno Pacific 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21) on the Sunbirds' Senior Day inside the Special Events Center on
Nov. 3.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week, the Knights will play their final two matches of the season, first hosting Holy Names in a rescheduled match on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. then celebrating Senior Day against Point Loma on Friday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Both contests will be played inside Kezar Pavilion.
