HAYWARD, Calif. -- Academy of Art claimed their first conference victory of 2018 in a commanding 4-0 win over Holy Names on a stellar performance by
Adrian Cekala who captured his second brace of the year in Tuesday afternoon's battle for the bay.
"The match's ultimate success was getting that first goal and defending with vigor," said coach
Matt Martin. "Every goal came from our defending and the patience of our goal scorers."
The Urban Knights were held scoreless in the first half, but struck quickly in the second when senior defender
Connor Henrichs leapt into the air and headed a ball to the back of the net for his second of the year putting ART U up 1-0 in the 50th minute. Sophomore
Oliver Hadeen claimed the assist with his brilliant cross on the go-ahead goal.
The floodgates opened in the last 10 minutes as the Urban Knights broke out for three goals in eight minutes. The first of the trio came from junior
Adrian Cekala for his fifth goal of the season. Just a minute and a half later Cekala claimed his second goal of the match to secure his second brace in less than a week and put ART U up 3-0 with seven minutes to play.Â
The final nail in the coffin, if there was not one already, came in the 90th minute on Hadeen's second goal of the season, assisted by Cekala. The fourth goal capped off the offensive explosion and secured the Knight's first conference victory.
"Every attacker had a moment that stressed Holy Names' back-line," said Martin. "The decision making on those counter attacks late was spot on."
Academy of Art's season high in goals was complemented by sophomore
Kris Jensson's second shutout of the season in which he compiled six saves bringing his total to 58.
With the pair of goals, Cekala's team leading points total ascends to 13, while Hadeen moves into second with seven points on two goals and three assists.
ART U improves their overall record to 2-9-2 and their PacWest record to 1-4-1. The Urban Knights depart on their final roadtrip of 2018 to take on No. 14 Azusa Pacific Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Cougar Soccer Complex in Azusa, California.
