Robings Robs Sharks with Late Goal

SAN FRANCISCO -- Saturday's PacWest match between Academy of Art and Hawaii Pacific came down to the wire after freshman defender Avica Robings buried her second goal of the season in the 86th minute to force overtime and ultimately a 1-1 tie.

HPU kicked off the scoring in the 19th minute with Brittny Ihara's second goal of the season. Ihara received a cross in the middle of the box and landed a ball in the top of the goal to shatter senior goalkeeper Morgan Wirz's chance at tying the career shutout record of eight.

The second goal came in the closing minutes of the match off the cleat of Robings, who followed up a blocked shot by freshman midfielder Reyna Valencia and placed her second career goal in the bottom left corner of the net. Valencia collected her third assist of the season on the play to lift her points to seven, third highest for the Urban Knights. Regulation ended shortly thereafter and the 1-1 tie went to overtime.

Opportunities were limited for both squads in the two overtime periods and the score remained unchanged at the final whistle. ART U only had one shot in the extra periods, but it was a dangerous one, coming off the head of senior midfielder Silvia Fernstrom but her effort was turned away by the save of the Shark's keeper.

Academy of Art adds another point and moves to 7-7-2 overall and 1-6-2 in PacWest conference play. Their next opportunity to break the single seasons win record comes Monday, Oct. 29th at 1 p.m. against Chaminade at Paul Goode Field.
