SAN FRANCISCO --Â On Monday, Academy of Art women's soccer broke the single season wins record to become the most successful team in program history. The historic eighth victory came in the penultimate game of the year in a 1-0 triumph over Chaminade on a goal from junior defender
Mikayla Lopez.
Â
The triumph was not without adversity. In the first half alone, Chaminade fired 16 shots, but the goalkeeping duo of senior
Morgan Wirz and sophomore
Lara Pflicke combined for seven saves to hold the Silverswords scoreless.
The Urban Knights struck early when in the 13th minute senior midfielder
Rocky Herrera crossed in a corner kick to Lopez who lobbed a header over the CUH goalkeeper into the net. Lopez's second goal of the season put ART U up 1-0. Herrera collected her team-leading fourth assist on the play and moves into second highest in points with eight.
An impressive defensive stand followed as Academy of Art went on to shut out CUH. The final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 1-0, and a seven-year record was broken.

The 2018 Academy of Art women's soccer team now claims the mantel of the winningest team in program history, surpassing the squad from 2012 who went 7-11.
With the win, ART U moves to 8-7-2 overall and 2-6-2 in conference. The Knights will look to maintain their winning record and expand on the best season in program history Nov. 3 against Notre Dame de Namur on Senior Day.
