PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Nov. 5)
IRVINE, Calif. – Another efficient and effective week led Academy of Art volleyball middle blocker
Jillian Wheaton to be named PacWest Freshman of the Week for the third time this year. The award is based on matches between Oct. 29 - Nov. 4.
At the forefront of a thrilling win for the Urban Knights over Holy Names on
Halloween night, Wheaton delivered a team-high 14 kills (hitting .522) with nine blocks (seven assists, two solos). Two nights later on
Nov. 2, she posted her second-highest hitting percentage of the year (.563) en route to nine kills with no errors along with six blocks (five assists, one solo).
After hitting over .530 while averaging more than 11.0 kills plus 7.0 blocks per match across the two contests last week, Wheaton now boasts a .360 hitting percentage which continues to serve as the highest mark in the PacWest Conference among freshman, is fifth overall, and top 40 in all of NCAA Division II. She has also risen to seventh in the conference in blocks per set (0.93).
This is the third PacWest weekly award for Wheaton in her career after she earned the honor on
Sept. 24 and
Oct. 1.
