ART U TO REMATCH PENGUINS, COUGARS, SEA LIONS THIS WEEK

Riding the wave of four consecutive wins and six victories in their last seven matches, Academy of Art volleyball gets set for another busy week with Dominican in town prior to one final journey to Southern California to play Azusa Pacific and Point Loma for the second time in 2019.

FIRST SERVE
In its penultimate home match, ART U takes on Dominican this Wednesday, Nov. 6 inside Kezar Pavilion at 7 p.m. Following a day off from competition, the Urban Knights head to Azusa Pacific's Felix Event Center for a 6 p.m. first serve against the Cougars on Friday, Nov. 8. The afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 9 then sees Academy of Art face Point Loma inside Golden Gymnasium at 2 p.m. Live coverage will be available via the links above. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) and on Twitter & Instagram as well as "Like" the Urban Knights on Facebook for score updates, videos, and recaps.

KNIGHT WATCH
20408Academy of Art approaches its first match of November ranked third in the PacWest in digs per set (17.33) and fourth in service aces per set (1.55). Hitting nearly .400 during the Urban Knights' four-match win streak, junior middle blocker Carly Evetts is riding a stretch of 11 or more kills in each of those contests. On the season, sophomore middle blocker Jillian Wheaton carries the conference's second-highest hitting percentage (.384) and ranks 20th in NCAA Division II in that category. Powering ART U's higher rankings in service aces and digs per set, junior outside hitter Mariana Figueroa Ferriera has cracked the PacWest's top 10 in digs per set (3.70) and is currently tied with fellow junior outside hitter Ashley Pawlak with the fourth-most service aces per set (0.37). Pawlak, the team's points per set leader (3.07), has 10 double-doubles on the year and continues to ascend in multiple program career categories. She is now tied for fourth in career service aces (80), fourth in career digs (946), and seventh in career kills (603). Double-doubles have been a regular occurrence for sophomore setter Picabo Reinhold as well with six of her team-best 15 coming in her last eight matches. She ranks third in the PacWest in assists per set (9.54) and, in less than two seasons, she has cemented herself among ART U's all-time greats with the third-most career assists (1,468).

PENGUINS ON ICE
Dominican has won just three sets in nine losses since the team's Oct. 9 sweep at the hands of Academy of Art. Leading the way for the Penguins, Tiffany Wong is offering 2.17 kills per set while Hana Wyles' 4.85 digs per set rank sixth in the PacWest. With its most recent victory, ART U moved one win back of their opponent in what is now a 13-12 historical matchup barely favoring Dominican.

COUGARS HUNTING TOP SPOT
After sweeping the Urban Knights back on Sept. 28, Azusa Pacific has gone 9-2, moving all the way up to second in the PacWest standings behind Chaminade whom they also swept in Hawaii on Oct. 25. The Cougars, whose most recent loss came to UH Hilo in five sets on Oct. 28, are slated to travel to Fresno Pacific on Nov. 6 before their rematch with ART U. APU leads the conference in hitting percentage (.256), assists per set (13.05), and digs per set (17.77) and a big reason why is the tandem of Annaka Jorgenson and Julianne Miller who both rank in the PacWest's top eight in points per set. Additionally, Bailey Henington paces the conference with 5.97 digs per set. Now with 10 previous meetings, Azusa Pacific is up 7-3 all-time against Academy of Art.

ROAR OF THE LIONS
One week after defeating ART U on Sept. 27, Point Loma rattled off five straight 3-0 victories (including one of APU), but the Sea Lions then lost all three in Hawaii before getting back on track against Dominican and Notre Dame de Namur. Before facing the Knights for the second time, PLNU will host Concordia on Nov. 6 to continue a home-heavy final stretch. Madie Fox (.347 hitting percentage & 3.20 kills per set – both fifth in PacWest), Cara Ketuakis (9.59 assists per set – second in PacWest), and Courtney Dyer (0.47 aces per set – first in PacWest, 5.39 digs per set – second in PacWest) remain the three biggest threats for Point Loma. The Sea Lions lead Academy of Art 11-1 in the historical matchup.

LOOKING AHEAD
Mid-November brings the final two Bay Area matches of ART U's regular season. The first, a Nov. 13 rematch at Notre Dame de Namur, comes 24 hours before the Urban Knights' last home contest hosting Holy Names on Nov. 14. A three-part Hawaii roadtrip then concludes the 2019 campaign for Academy of Art.
