PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Feb. 4)
IRVINE, Calif. – After a very productive first three games of her senior year, Academy of Art softball infielder
Brenna Youngquist was named PacWest Player of the Week in the year's first release of weekly awards. The honor is based on games played between Jan. 28 - Feb. 3.
Between two walks in ART U's first contest in the Desert Stinger Tournament against Stanislaus State on
Feb. 1, Youngquist roped her 27th career double and moved one two-base hit from
Jayme Stewart and
Alana Aweau who rank sixth in program history. Later that same day, the Buena Park, Calif. native would drive in two runs on an infield single amid the Urban Knights' furious seventh-inning comeback attempt versus Cal State Monterey Bay. Following a rainout on Saturday, Youngquist came up with the bases loaded in a matchup with eventual tournament champion Cal State San Bernardino on
Feb. 3 and brought home two more of her teammates on a single to center field.
Youngquist finished the opening week as the PacWest leader in on-base percentage (.700), tied for the lead in runs batted in (4), and second in batting average (.625). Those four RBIs made the Acting major the second Academy of Art student-athlete ever to reach 100 RBIs in her career.
This is the second PacWest weekly award for Youngquist in her career, but her first Player of the Week honor as she was named
PacWest Newcomer of the Week as a freshman in 2016.
