TOC Batting Champ Henderson Earns PacWest Weekly Honor

PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Apr. 1)

19520IRVINE, Calif. – Following a tremendous week at the plate in which she was named both Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team and Batting Champion, Academy of Art softball sophomore catcher Lauryn Henderson also added PacWest Player of the Week honors. The award is based on games played between Mar. 25-31.

The Game Development major started the Tournament of Champions with a 5-for-5 day that included a home run, a double, four runs batted in, and three stolen bases against UC San Diego and Central Washington on Mar. 29. She went on to play a key role in both wins on day two, Mar. 30, finishing 4-for-8 with a homer versus Cal State East Bay then three hits in a matchup with Concordia (Ore.) including the game-winning single in the eighth inning. She was at it again on Mar. 31, connecting for a two-run double that would be the difference in a 3-1 win over Montana State Billings.

Over the course of a six-game week, Henderson hit .526 (10-for-19) with eight runs batted in, two home runs, two doubles, five runs scored, and three stolen bases. She slugged .947 and posted an on-base percentage of .591 while delivering the two game-winning hits along the way.

For the season, she now ranks second in the PacWest in both batting average (.438) and slugging percentage (.771).

This is the first PacWest weekly award for Henderson in her career.
