2019 Women's Soccer Schedule Announced

2019 Women's Soccer Schedule

SAN FRANCISCO --
Academy of Art University women's soccer and head coach Chris King have announced the 18 match schedule for 2019.

"The goals for this year's schedule were to continue to build on the steps forward we took last year," said King. "I think overall we have a good balance of challenges and opportunities for success and I can't wait for the games to get started."

The Urban Knights kick off against Humboldt State on Sept. 5 for their first meeting of the Lumberjacks since Sept. 11, 2014. Two days later ART U will face Saint Martin's. The Urban Knights defeated the Saints 2-0 on the road last year for their first win of the season. ART U will stay in the Bay, but play as away, when they travel a couple miles south to take on cross town rival and fourth place finisher in the CCAA, SF State, at Cox Stadium on Sept. 11.

"Getting SF State on our schedule was a big one," said King. "That cross town rivalry is something I plan to have on our schedule every year going forward and is a an opportunity for our team to show the level that we have gotten to."

A pair of non-conference matches versus Mills and Western Oregon, both of which ART U defeated last year, will lead the Knights into their final non-conference tune-up with William Jessup. ART U 2-0-1 against WJU all-time.

Conference play starts with Notre Dame de Namur on Sept. 27. An Oct. 3 match versus Azusa Pacific and Oct. 10 match versus Concordia preceeds ART U's first road trip of the season. The Urban Knights will travel to Southern California to face Biola on Oct. 17 and 2018 PacWest Champions, Point Loma on Oct. 19.

After returning from SoCal, the Knights will stay local for a 10:30 a.m. kickoff with Holy Names on Oct. 22. That weekend ART U will face another Bay Area opponent, Dominican on Oct. 26. The final home game of the season and senior day will take place on Nov. 2 at CCSF Field against Fresno Pacific.

Academy of Art will play their final match in California on Nov. 5 against Notre Dame de Namur at Koret Field before a three game island trip to Hawaii. The island trip begins with Chaminade on Nov. 9 in Honolulu. Two days later, and still in Oahu, ART U will face Hawaii Pacific. Finally, the Urban Knights will close out their 2019 season on the big island, when they take on UH Hilo Nov. 14.

"The PacWest schedule is always a challenge, but one we are very focused on tackling aggressively this year," said King. "We improved so much as a program last year, but still had a few conference games slip through our fingers that could have easily gone our way. The focus last year was to just get better and we knew the results would come. This year we can really dial in on competing in the PacWest."
