PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Sept. 16)
IRVINE, Calif. – At the forefront of two D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase victories and a near upset of tournament host UC San Diego on ESPN 3, Academy of Art junior outside hitter
Ashley Pawlak earned the distinction of PacWest Player of the Week. The award is based on matches between Sept. 9-15.
Starting the week with her second double-digit kill performance in her first four matches, Pawlak turned in 10 kills plus seven digs against Chico State on
Sept. 13. Later that same day, she offered season-highs in both kills (19) and digs (25) as ART U defeated Saint Martin's in five sets.
The
second day of the tourney began with another victory for the Urban Knights and another double-double (16 kills, 13 digs) for the Communications & Media Technologies major. Then, in the nightcap, Pawlak matched her season-high (one shy of her career-high) with another 19 kills plus 20 digs for her third consecutive double-double.
The PacWest Conference's leader in total kills for the week (64), Pawlak averaged 3.56 kills and 3.61 digs per set. She added eight service aces, six assists, and five total blocks. On the season, the Aiea, Hawaii native currently ranks third in the PacWest in kills per set (3.14).
This is the first PacWest weekly award for Pawlak in her career.
