KNIGHT WATCH
ART U opened the season
with a split of its season-opening games in consecutive days against the Dominican Penguins, keeping both teams at the top of the PacWest Northern California pod. After holding a two-point lead at the half in game one, ART U couldn't hold off a comeback from the Penguins, dropping the game late
by a final of 77-73. The following night, it was the Urban Knights stealing the same game plan, as they capped off a dramatic 26-point come-from-behind effort with a layup in the closing moments
of a 72-67 victory on Saturday.
Â
Redshirt junior guard
Jalen Lovett paced the team in scoring on Friday, dropping an eye-popping 26 points in his ART U debut on the strength of 10-for-15 (66.7 percent) shooting from the floor, helping him earn
his first PacWest NorCal Player of the Week honor. On the glass, senior forward
Josh Hill pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds, the second most in a single game in ART U history (
most: 20, Hayden Hunter). It was a pair of senior guards in
Dante Williams and
Stefan Milivojevic leading the charge on Saturday, as Williams put up a double-double in the second half alone en route to finishing with 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting, a career-high 14 rebounds and three steals. Meanwhile, Milivojevic hit just under half of his looks, including three 3-pointers, ending his night with a game-high 22 points.Â
Â
SQUARING UP WITH THE SUNBIRDS
Fresno Pacific was the first Northern California pod member to play a game, but has yet to see PacWest action. After a close 87-79 loss to Mountain West Conference member San Jose State to open the season, it has been a pair of double-digit losses to other DI schools Fresno State and Sacramento State, giving FPU some great experience as they prepare to face ART U in conference play.
