Urban Knights Strike Late, But Fall 2-1

FRESNO, Calif. – It was just a one-goal game after a goal from Academy of Art men's soccer junior defender Armando Rivera put one into the net in the 84th minute, but that would be as close as the Urban Knights would come against Fresno Pacific on Tuesday, falling by a final of 2-1 in Pacific West Conference action.

The goal from Rivera, coming off of an assist from junior forward Fannar Omarsson, came as a part of a six-shot second half for ART U (2-2-0, 2-2-0 PacWest), but the come-from-behind attempt would run out of time against the Sunbirds (2-1-0, 2-1-0 PacWest). FPU goalkeeper Patrick Timmer made six saves over the course of the game to earn his team the win, including a spectacular save on a nice shot from sophomore forward Gilly Miller with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

Action started early in the match when Fresno Pacific had a scoring opportunity on a breakaway just six minutes into the match, with ART U keeper Davis King making a solid save to keep the Sunbirds off the scoreboard. Despite King's best efforts, FPU would eventually break through onto the scoresheet, first on Eduardo Villar's third goal of the season when he sent home a header from a set piece. The insurance goal would come in the 20th minute after a pair of quick passes by Allen Escalante and James Hernandez set up Fellipe Souza for an open look at the net.

Five different Urban Knights recorded shots led by Miller, three of which were on goal, while Rivera got the marker on his only shot of the game. King would end his night with a total of four saves in goal for ART U

The Urban Knights will return to the pitch on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. when they take on Dominican.Â
