Offenses Challenge, But Knights End Scoreless With Hawks

Hayward, Calif. – There was no lack of chances during the non-conference match between Academy of Art men's soccer and Holy Names on Wednesday, but neither side would find a goal despite a combined 26 shots as the contest ended in a scoreless draw after two periods of overtime.

Getting the upper hand in the first half were the Hawks (2-2-1), but the Urban Knights (0-4-1) would go stride-for-stride the rest of the way, with the shots nearly even from the second frame through the end of overtime. Combining for 10 shots was the duo of sophomore midfielder Gilly Miller and senior forward Adrian Cekala, with each putting two of those looks on goal, while the boot of Miler also put two chances off the frame during the second half.

Getting his first start in goal was freshman keeper Omer Tal, who responded with nine saves in what would become his first career clean sheet, tied for the ninth-most saves in a single game in program history. Tal would also be the beneficiary of the goalposts, as HNU returned the favor with a couple of shots off the frame to keep the match level.

A trip to Southern California lies ahead for the Knights, as the first stop in PacWest play will be at the home of Biola under the lights on Sept. 30 beginning at 7 p.m.
