LA MIRADA, Calif. – Nearly all stats were level at the half between Academy of Art men's soccer and Biola in the Pacific West Conference opener for both teams, as sophomore midfielder
Gilly Miller launched three shots for ART U in the tightly contested affair. However, the Biola offense would break through in the second frame, snatching the win by a 4-0 final.
Thanks to the effort by Miller in the first 45 minutes, the Urban Knights (0-5-1, 0-1-0 PacWest) only trailed the Eagles (5-3-0, 1-0-0 PacWest) by one shot at the break, but only the final of the seven first half chances would make it on target. The tide would soon turn in the second half, as Biola would score in the 53rd minute before later putting the game away with goals in the 67th, 73rd, and 77th minutes.
Senior forward
Adrian Cekala had the chance to cut the Eagles' lead in half when the match was 2-0, as his free kick in the 71st minute was labeled for the top portion of the net until a jumping save from Biola goalkeeper JD Gunn forced the ball over the bar for a corner kick. The Eagles would eventually recover, denying the Knights any chance for a comeback.
ART U will look to rebound on Saturday, Oct. 2 when the Knights conclude the quick two-match road trip by battling Point Loma at 2 p.m.
