Academy of Art men's and women's cross country look to extend their postseason run with the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships set to be contested this weekend. The morning of Saturday, Nov. 19 at Amend Park in Montana (the site of NCAA West Regionals in 2018), Academy of Art will toe the line for an opportunity to reach NCAA Nationals two weeks later.

The day begins with the women's 6k race at 10 a.m. and the men's 10k follows at 11:15 a.m. The top 25 finishers in each race will be recognized as All-West Region. The top-three placing men's and women's teams will automatically advance to the national meet. The top two individuals who are not part of a qualifying team will automatically advance to the national meet. All individuals who finish in the top five at the regional meet and are not part of a qualifying team automatically will advance to the championship. Other teams and individuals may advance to the championships via an at-large selection that will be announced on Monday following the regional competition.
Over the five meets leading to NCAA West Regionals, senior
Hudson Lockette and graduate student
Sebastian Rivera Del Hierro have taken turns pacing the Academy of Art men's team. Lockette had the honor in the USF Invite (
Sept. 3), the Lewis Crossover (
Oct. 8 where he achieved a new 8k personal record 25:06.7), and most recently with his 15th place finish at the PacWest Championship (
Nov. 5) which earned him a spot on the All-PacWest Second Team. Meanwhile, Rivera Del Hierro debuted for ART U with the team's top result at the UC Riverside Invite (
Sept. 17) as well as NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals (
Oct. 22). While Rivera Del Hierro has yet to compete in a 10k as an Urban Knight, Lockette has three under his belt with a career-best 31:43.3 coming at
2019 NCAA West Regionals.
Two other Academy of Art competitors, senior
Markus Anderson Deakin and graduate student
Owen Day, deepen the team's 10k experience as both were part of the squad's
2021 NCAA West Regional appearance which saw Anderson Deakin finish second for ART U inside the top 70 overall. Ready to tackle the new distance will be freshmen
Conrad Heinemann,
Vaughn Lacour, and
Jaden Singleton, the latter two of whom come off season-best marks at the PacWest Championship just two weeks ago.

A total of three members from the 2021 Academy of Art women's cross country team return to NCAA West Regionals where they contributed to
the Knights' fourth place finish prior to making their
first NCAA Nationals appearance. Junior
Delanie Dykes, redshirt senior
Audrey Rosencrans, and sophomore
Lina Hanich will be seeking to improve upon their respective 18th, 28th, and 92nd place results last year highlighted by Dykes' All-West Region honor. This season, Rosencrans and Hanich have each achieved new 6k personal records with Rosencrans, an
All-PacWest Second Team selection for the fourth time in her career, posting the ninth-fastest 6k time in program history (21:59.7) at NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals on
Oct. 22.
Alongside that trio will be sophomore
Michaela Andrews as well as freshmen
Lisa Redlinger and
María Martín. Though she has competed in just three meets thus far, Redlinger has led ART U on two of those occasions, the USF Invite (
Sept. 3) and the UC Riverside Invite (
Sept. 17), with her fastest time of 21:48.7 in her second collegiate race putting her among Academy of Art's top 10 historically at the distance. Martin achieved her own 6k season-best at that same meet while Andrews progressively dropped her times over her last three times out for her top mark at the PacWest Championship.
